“Organizations need to take lessons from futurists–think like a futurist,” says CEO and founder of Amplified Growth Kiki L’Italien. “There’s a whole methodology – do an environmental scan by looking at the trends and themes; then identify opportunities and challenges.”
How to conduct this environmental scan and identify what’s coming next is all part of a very important panel on June 26 at the CSAE Annual Conference called “Navigating the Storm – Preparing Your Association for Disruption” that Kiki will help facilitate. The Conference, held from June 25 to June 27 at The Grand Lodge in Crested Butte, Colorado, is the biggest event of the year for the Colorado Society of Association Executives (CSAE).
The CSAE Annual Conference Takes a Bold Approach
This year’s theme, “Aspire to Inspire Personal & Professional Authenticity,” promises to be the best yet, having attracted nationally known headliners like Kiki and her other co-presenters on the panel, including Scott Oser of Scott Oser Associates, Lowell Aplebaum of Next Connextion and Bennett Napier, CAE, of Partners in Association Management. Speaking of inspiration, it was the idea of the panel’s moderator, CSAE Member Adrienne Segundo, IOM, of Limitless Association Resource, to recruit Kiki as a speaker for this year’s conference.
They had known each other through past events of the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) and the Florida Society of Association Executives (FSAE), and when Adrienne suggested the idea, Kiki, having spoken for ASAE, FSAE, and other state associations, was immediately interested. Kiki’s rising popularity on the speaking circuit is due to her holistic approach to online marketing. Originally a social media consultant, she branched out to get certified in SEO in 2012 and expanded from there to inbound marketing, content strategy and even authoring courses Mediabistro. “I finally decided to pursue speaking more now that I have more of a method to madness,” Kiki quips.
But Kiki’s role at CSAE’s Annual Conference has expanded since her initial conversation with Adrienne. She had originally proposed the session on content disruption with longtime co-presenter Scott Oser as they had worked on a lot of client engagements together and have a library of case studies. CSAE became very interested in her presentation idea and background and asked her to lead the conference.
As a result, Kiki will also be delivering Opening and Closing Remarks as well as looking for and discussing important threads running through the conference. To find out what’s resonating with Conference attendees in particular, Kiki plans to video 10-minute takeaways as well at the Conference’s Social Media lounge through Facebook Live and conduct the one-to-one interviews for which she made a name for herself back in 2009 while a Delcor Senior Consultant where she launched a weekly video show that would evolve into Association Chat.
Kiki’s tip for navigating the storm of disruption? “There are a few structures to ease the tensions that your environmental scan will reveal, so if you ask yourself what can your organization do to help alleviate the tensions, you can often position yourself as very relevant. As to how to do this, the panel will feature some of Kiki’s case studies, both the successful and the unsuccessful “because being cutting edge is complicated.”
We look forward to Kiki walking us through the opportunities and around the pitfalls in just a few weeks at Crested Butte!
